The Christmas Special
The Christmas Special
To round off the year, we added one last holiday update to Durg's Durgers. I finally decided to add some background buildings to our neighborhood so the world would look less creepy. I also changed the background to be night time to give off more of a festive spirit. In the process of adding the durgmas tree and its lights, I ended up fixing the lighting issue on the world map. No longer will the bottom of every surface be a pitch black void.
Besides this, I also ended up finding the source and cause of the Brine. This is actually great news because now we can export the Brine to other universes and finally change skins. If you're curious about the cause, in Babylon.js models are imported with a different orientation than Blender. Because of this, the UV map of a model imported to Babylon.js has the U coordinate rotated 180 degrees, so unless you rotate the UV map or the texture, you get weird artifacts like the Brine. I'm really glad we found the cause and I'm excited to take advantage of UV map rotations in the future.
In all, I had a lot of fun adding santa's sleigh and skin changes to Durg's Durgers this Christmas. Small changes like this are actually big steps towards character customization and item equipping which I plan to add in future updates. Even messing around with emissions and adding the timed lights to the game felt like a big win, I can't wait to play around with the lighting textures more. Thank you for sticking with me in 2024, there's always more to come. Stay Durgy!
